The Schierbeek Family

In June of 2024, we welcomed Chad Schierbeek to our LIFE Skills Children’s Ministry staff. Chad has been a Children’s Ministry volunteer in our LIFE Skills program for three years and has helped his mom provide meals to our LIFE Skills participants for over 10 years prior to joining our staff. In his spare time, Chad enjoys hanging out with friends, playing video games and being outside.

Chad and his family have played an integral role in helping our LIFE Skills program be successful. While his parents, David and Jodi, and his sister, Courtny, remain faithful volunteers, Chad is joining his sister, Denise, on staff, and we’re grateful to officially welcome him to the team.

Here’s what Jodi, his mom, has to say about their family’s experience as volunteers in our LIFE Skills Program:

Our family has been blessed for many years, and we wanted to give back.

After our kids moved out, David started volunteering in the nursery at LIFE Skills for something to do. A few years later, our daughters, Courtny and Denise joined, and helped with the older kids in the Children’s Ministry. Not long after that, Chad and I started making food for the adults. What has brought each of us in, and continues to bring us back, is the relationships we get to form with the LIFE Skills participants. We’ve so enjoyed talking with them, growing with them, and even asking what type of food they would like next time.

Shortly after COVID, Chad began making food for the kids, and he’d sometimes stay at LIFE Skills until 8:30, helping Denise (who had already joined the Love INC staff) with the kids. Last year, he committed to helping Denise every week. Him joining the staff was a natural, yet exciting, next step. We’re grateful for this opportunity for our family, and proud of our kids for stepping up.
